TRAVEL INFORMATION

Visa Issues:

All visitors from non EU countries must have passports or equivalent travel
documents valid for at least 6 months. Please check with your local Greek
Consulate or Embassy for details regarding visa and entry requirements.
Through the UPEC2017 secretariat there is a possibility to issue a VISA
letter provided you have completed your registration.
Any visa invitation letter issued is meant only to help visitors raise
funds or to obtain a visa,and is not a commitment on the part of the
organizers to provide any financial support.
Organisers may NOT contact Embassies in support of an individual attempting
to gain entry to attend the meeting.


HOW TO GET TO HERAKLION CITY, CRETE

Heraklion is directly connected to Athens International Airport with about 10 domestic flights daily run by Olympic Air, Aegean Airlines, Ellinair Airlines, Astra Airlines and Sky Express.
There are also other direct scheduled airline connections from major European cities as well as many charter flights from most European countries.

Alternatively, one can use the ferry-boat connecting Heraklion with the harbour of Piraeus (Athens). Connection is offered by Minoan Lines, ANEK Lines & Superfast Ferries and the overnight trip takes about 7 hours.


HOW TO REACH T.E.I.

The Technical Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete, is located 5 km south-west of the city centre.
You can get to T.E.I. by:

A. BY CONFERENCE BUS

We have arranged daily transfers, from Heraklion city center to T.E.I., for participants, and are included in the registration fees.

The pick up points and delivery for the daily transfers is Galaxy hotel, Liberty Square/Venizelos Statue, Natural History Museum of Crete (at the coastal road of the city) and at the Sklavenitis super market which is situated at the entrance of Ammoudara area. The bus will have the UPEC 2017 poster in the front window. Please look for it.

BY CITY BUS

There is one bus route to and from T.E.I several times per day:
From Heraklion city center to T.E.I:
Bus number 12: the sign on the front of the bus reads ATEI or ATEI-AKADIMIA
The bus starts from the Airport. The bus drops you off, opposite the entrance of T.E.I.

The bus carry on until the last one at 23:40 hours

*Buses run everyday from the airport bus stop at 6:07 hours and every 30’ minutes with the last one at 23:40 hours. It takes approximately 50’ minutes or more (depending on the traffic) to T.E.I. and then the bus returns to the bus station.

The ticket costs 1,20€. You can get these from Ticket machines, or form Kiosks with personal assistance employees, just beside most bus-stops.

 


BY TAXI

  1. From Heraklion city center to T.E.I: The most convenient taxi queue is “Eleftherias Square” (“Platia Eleftherias” in Greek) or “Lion Square” (“Liontaria” in Greek). A taxi ride takes about 15-20 minutes (depending on the traffic) and costs approximately 10-12€.
  2. From airport to T.E.I: Taxi service is provided just outside the airport. A taxi ride takes about 20-25 minutes (depending on the traffic) and costs approximately 23€.

BY CAR

To get to T.E.I., please head west on the National Highway (towards Rethymnon and Chania). Use the exit to “Moires”, turn right after 500m and then follow the signs for the TEI of Crete.

 

HOW TO REACH THE HOTELS

When you arrive at Heraklion airport, transfer to the hotels selected is possible by:

  1. Public bus to Heraklion city and Ammoudara area

The city bus stop is situated exactly opposite Heraklion Airport arrivals terminal and tickets can be purchased from the vending machine (orange colour) at the price of 1,20€ for Heraklion and (blue colour) at the price of 1,80€ for Ammoudara.

Buses run very frequently to Heraklion town centre with the first bus starting at 06:15 and the last departing at 23:30.  Most buses have a GPS advising the name of each bus stop.
The city bus stops directly outside the Capsis Astoria Hotel in Liberty Square “Eleftherias Square”, in Heraklion and stops outside almost every hotel in the area of Ammoudara.

Taxi
The approximate fare from Heraklion Airport to Heraklion city is 10-12€ and to Ammoudara area (where the Agapi Beach hotel is situated) is 18-20€
